This chapter reviews the macroeconomic situation of the different countries and regions of Africa and the evolution of the continent as a whole. It reviews trends in economic growth on the continent, and forecasts for 2017-18 in light of key global, regional and national dynamics. It examines the major drivers of growth on the demand and supply side and makes comparisons between different African regions according to the structure of their economies. This chapter also analyzes the external positions as well as the fiscal, monetary and financial policies underlying the recent performance of African countries and likely to influence their future development trajectories.
Dashboard of African Finance
This chapter analyzes recent developments in external financial flows to Africa and the collection of tax revenues. It focuses on how foreign direct investment, portfolio investment, remittances and official development assistance behaved in 2015 and 2016 as well as prospects for 2017 - highlighting the growing importance of private flows relative to public flows. The chapter ends with a description of the evolution of national revenues in Africa from 2005 to 2015, as well as an analysis of the issues associated with increased domestic revenue mobilization.
Africa Financial Centers Index (AFCI)
Trade between African countries and the continent's trade relations with the rest of the world is changing rapidly. This chapter, in five sections, looks at the diversification of Africa's trading partners and negotiated products and looks forward to further progress. It analyzes the global economic situation, decrypts the role of the eight regional economic communities and their integration policies and initiatives, and suggests ways to help the private sector in Africa make the most of the opportunities offered by regional and global values.
